We are not a supermarket shelf brand that produces the same from-the-factory flavour year after year, each small batch is a new experiment in hand crafted quality rum. And, unlike the big drinks companies, this diversity is not a bug but a feature.
After successfully crowdfunding on Kickstarter thanks to a group of like minded and passionate rum lovers, we began the dream of building a rum distillery in Buckinghamshire, one which would create rum entirely from scratch using responsibly sourced sugar, and would work towards implementing ethical and responsible practices.
It began with converting an old grain store on a farm in Stoke Mandeville into an industrial unit, which would require renovation works and obtaining the required planning permission for the conversion.
We also began the process of acquiring all the necessary licensing from the authorities in order for us to operate legally as a distillery. In a process that was fraught with setbacks, what should have taken merely a month took almost 2 years to complete.
Our determination and resilience paid off, and we are now one of only a handful of distilleries in the UK who make our rums completely from scratch.
Just like the Cane Rat, we are resilient and determined. We are a truly independent distillery making small batch spirits, with a passion for experimentation.
We’ve made it our mission to distil a truly new 21st century rum, to turn the drinks industry into a more innovative place, and maybe make the world a little better along the way.
